January 29, 2015Brown happened to be the choice of color listed to close a semester long experience playing with and writing about color - learning how to use it consciously and purposefully - during a “Color Intensive” course. During those last few weeks of finals, I came to fancy the color “brown” more than I ever have in the past. Sure I think of chocolate when I see brown, but in this case I thought of sugar…brown sugar and where it all began. Somehow this interest in sugar related to my research on Melanin, its notable similarity to granular properties of sand, and the potential significance those two parallels might hold as new mediums incorporated into my work about skin. If I were to elaborate any further on the details of the idea, you would begin reading an excerpt from what may develop into my thesis…so I’ll say no more on that matter for now. However, I will share the product of what had been many hours spent in the kitchen playing with sugar (…praying that my final pieces wouldn’t break apart before that critique) below. Enjoy!
Each delectable portrait piece, except for the final image, is created with 100% pure granulated sugar. The only one that remains standing is the first in the group…the others has since melted away.
Now, how’s that for “eye candy”?
